What is the philosophical significance of a "religious experience"?
Philosophically analyze how? The question of evidence is an important factor. I don't doubt that people have these experience or that they are significant. I just question the methodology by which these things are examined. Conclusions drawn from highly unconscious experiences such as the religious experience are incapable of being rationally evaluated during the experience (as I understand it) and to draw conclusions during the fact is a highly dubious thing. I look at it a lot like dream interpretation. Philosophical analysis of dreams is not really a very significant part of the process. It's entirely subjective and the conclusions drawn from that are subjective. To analyze philosophically there must be some objectivity. I think that's why psychology and philosophy compliment each other so well.
